About Us
The
CCAEYC A Starting Small
Project was initiated in September of
2004. The receipt of a grant from the Northern
Chautauqua Community Foundation enabled us provide two
community-wide training opportunities for adults who work
with young children (birth through 8 years) during the
spring and fall of 2004. Both sessions were open to
parents and the general public.
Our project is a small but important attempt to develop a
culture of tolerance. Our hope is to initiate
thoughtful dialogue with early childhood providers and
teachers – and eventually with our entire county-wide
community – about issues that impact on us all:
▪ tolerance for difference
▪ respect for all cultures and
races
▪ empathy and compassion for one
another
The
two primary goals of our project are these:
▪ To
expand our understanding of the role we have as early
childhood caregivers and educators to prepare very young
children to live in a diverse country and an increasingly
interconnected world.
▪ To
expand community dialogue about our common responsibilities
as adults to foster a community culture which respects all
people.
We
believe that respectful adult role models, exposure to new
ideas and experiences, and inclusive public policies are
part of the solution to the problems facing our
communities, both local and global. The CCAEYC
A Starting
Small Project is our way of sowing seeds of
change.
